Objectified
Chelsea cinema, Kings Road was the location of the special screening of Objectified (http://www.objectifiedfilm.com/), a documentary about product design by the makers of Helvetica. As I entered the auditorium the first people I meet are Jonathan Ive (Apple Vice President of Industrial design) and Stephen Fry (Yes, that Stephen Fry)! An early indication that this would be a unique evening.
The cinema hushed at the appointed hour and the film ran. Including commentary from such industry luminaries as Marc Newson (London/Paris), Dieter Rams (Kronberg, Germany), Karim Rashid (New York) and Alice Rawsthorn (International Herald Tribune).
I found it a touch introspective, and questions surrounding sustainability weren't really asked and answered, however, a really beautifully shot and entertaining film.
In their words:...the film documents the creative processes of some of the world’s most influential product designers, and looks at how the things they make impact our lives. What can we learn about who we are, and who we want to be, from the objects with which we surround ourselves?
Tickets have just gone on sale for a London cinema run of Objectified at the Barbican, starting 22 May. Director Gary Hustwit and special guests from the film will be in attendance at the May 23rd and 24th screenings.
