Dedicated mobile website launched for Bristol International Airport
The mobile Internet has been a long time coming, but with improved handsets and 3G connections the reality is starting to finally catch up with the hype. That said, browsing websites on mobile devices can still feel a bit like using the Internet in 1995 on a dial up modem. And then there’s the tiny screens on mobiles, which hardly do justice to your beautifully designed home page!
Speed and screen size were the two main reasons we decided to recommend to BIA that they develop a dedicated mobile version of their website. (Most of) the original site does work on mobile devices, but viewing a site optimised for broadband and 1024x768 screens on a mobile is never going to be ideal.
So we’ve re-designed and re-engineered the BIA website with mobiles specifically in mind. We’ve stripped out all the superfluous graphics, changed the navigation and made sure that the content is appropriate for small screens and slow connections.
The site is fully content managed, so BIA do not have to come back to 3Sixty every time they need to make a change. It’s also fully integrated into the live arrivals and departures board, so visitors can now check real-time flight information wherever they can get a reception!
To visit the site open the browser on your mobile phone and type in http://m.bristolairport.co.uk/
P.S. The BBC picked up on this story - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/7034405.stm - shame they didn't mention 3Sixty!
