Google Maps solution for Zuken

Google Maps solution for Zuken

One of our latest clients is Zuken, a multinational company listed on the Tokyo stock exchange. Zuken works globally with leading companies to optimise their electrical and electronic engineering design and related manufacturing processes through the provision of leading edge software and consulting services.

Zuken's first commission for 3Sixty was to re-design and develop a content managed website using Sitecore.

One of the major challenges we faced was how to deal with the global nature of the company and its range of distributors. The company also has a busy events calendar, and there was a requirement to show these by location and not just by date.

With well over 100 offices and distributors throughout the world, Zuken needed a solution that was easy to manage and update.

You can see what we've come up with on the Zuken contacts page. To add a Zuken office or distributor to the contacts map all the site editor needs to do is enter details in the Sitecore content management system and it gets automatically plotted on to the Google map. A customised icon indicates whether it's a Zuken office or a distributor. When the user clicks on the icon they get the address details and can also click to get driving directions.

There's also a neat filter that allows visitors to narrow down their search based on product lines; the map then shows matching distributors.

We've used Google Maps on the events page as well. Visitors get a world map of events and can zoom in on events in their region. Users can click through for more details on the event with a close up of the event location (using Google maps) plus driving directions.

Our Google Maps solution for Zuken involved a lot of complex programming, endless testing and quite a few long days, but now it's live we think it's a very elegant solution to a problem faced by multinational companies.
